NeuGen
NeuGen is  made  for  the generation  of  dendritic  and  axonal morphology of  realistic  neurons  and  networks  in  3D.
Cells generated by NeuGen, from left: L2/3, L4, L5A, L5B, starpyramidal, network with 15 cells
The idea for the development of NeuGen has been to be able to simulate networks of synaptically connected neurons in a cortical column. The NeuGen project is mainly a result of the fact that experimental data is available nowadays to extract the anatomical fingerprints of the cells and to generate synthetic neuron geometries.
27.12.2007 3 thesises using NeuGen can now be downloaded from the Research page
14.03.2007 Version 1.5.3 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.5.3 includes all bugfixes, especially an accelerated "Refresh" function for the parameter editor and an extended OutputOptions.neu. There is now an option to write average neuron data into a CVS file.

02.02.2007 Version 1.5.1 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.5.1 includes all bugfixes and new features, in particular a more user-friendly GUI.

30.11.2006 Version 1.4.1 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.4.1 includes all bugfixes and includes a new information window for the parameter adjustment.

(Version 1.4. has been removed because of a bug in the synapses generation)

19.07.2006 Version 1.3 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.3 includes all bugfixes and uses a new visualization algorithm, so that bigger networks can be shown in the GUI.

21.04.2006 Version 1.2 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.2 includes all bugfixes and some new options in the OutputOptions tree concerning the generation of NEURON output.

If the voltageFilePostfix is set, a NEURON simulation will write the potentials at each soma in each timestep in a file with this postfix. If the netConEventsFilePostfix is set, there will be written a .syn_coords file with all the NetCon coordinates and another file ending with the set postfix, keeping track of all NetCon events in each timestep during the NEURON simulation.

22.02.2006 Version 1.1 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.1 includes some new features, in particular, an addition to the graphical user interface for the visualization of the networks generated by NeuGen.

01.11.2005 Version 1.0.1 of NeuGen is now available!

NeuGen v1.0.1 includes some new features, in particular, a completely new graphical user interface for the configuration of NeuGen. It is also more stable and has all bugfixes for the output generations. A new algorithm for the interconnections and creating synapses has been implemented. The speed-up of the new interconnection is about 600%.
